S tronic®

The S tronic combines the efficiency and sportiness of a conventional manual transmission with the comfort of a modern automatic system. The dual clutch transmission allows fast shifting almost without noticeable tractive force interruption. The vehicle accelerates harmoniously and dynamically.

Already in 1985 Audi tested the technology of the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe in the sport quattro S1 and showed itself enthusiastically. Enthusiasm that Audi drivers can follow. The 6-speed S tronic changes gears in less than 0.2 seconds. For this purpose, it integrates two lamellar clutches, which operate different gears. A large clutch transmits the torque by means of a solid shaft to the gears of the odd gears. A compact second clutch supplies the straight gears via a hollow shaft. The two gearboxes are permanently active, but only one force is connected to the engine. If the vehicle accelerates, for example, in the third gear, only the first partial transmission transmits the force. In the second transmission, however, the fourth gear is already engaged. During the shifting process, not only the gear changes, but also the clutch - and this in a few hundredths of a second. So fast and fluent that the driver hardly perceives him.

S tronic® combines the efficiency and sportiness of a conventional manual transmission with the convenience of a modern automatic system

The 6-speed S tronic offers the driver the choice between manual shifting and automatic mode: whether the driver chooses the fully automatic mode with the programs D (Drive) and S (Sport) or changes the gears manually by means of the optional shift paddles - Is precise and extremely sporty.

However, the S tronic is also very efficient with all its dynamics. Because of their high efficiency, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions are reduced.
